SAINT DYMPNA’S WELL
Tobar Damhnata
Saint Dympna’s well, is in a field beside the old church and grave yard, north of Kildalkey. It has been recognised for generations as a Holy Well but has been recorded as drying up and falling into disrepair over the years.
However the well was restored by local residents in 1999-2000. It is now protected by a stone wall around it.
A plaque outlining the Legend of St Dympna is on the Graveyard wall nearby
Water from the well has been associated with healing powers for headache and toothache. A procession and sports were held in association with the annual commemoration of St Dympna on May 15th
